I usually wait about 6 months or so before I decide how a new album stacks up against the others. But here is my "early" analysis...

COADF is better than 'American Life' and it's at least as good as 'Music' and 'Bedtime Stories'.

It's not as powerful as 'Ray Of Light' or 'Erotica' (my two favorite Madonna albums) but I didn't really expect her to top those albums anyway.

I think I'm one of the very few who will always like "American Life" better than "Confessions". I love everything about that album.

How do you rate her 80's albums, especially "Like a Prayer"?

Oh don't get wrong,I really like 'American Life' too.But I think 'COADF' is much more fun, thus I think it's a better album lol

'Like A Prayer' is her first masterpiece. It's the album that set the stage for her amazing 90s output.Unlike most 80s artists,Madonna thrived in the 90s,creatively and artistically.I rarely listen to her first three albums.I prefer the albums that came after.

I still can't help linking it to 'Light Years' and 'Neon Nights', and it's just no fun in comparison. Future Lovers even sounds like the title track to 'Light Years'.

After listening for 3 days now, after letting every beat, every hook, every lyric submerge itself in my consciousness, I can honestly say I fucking love it.

The brilliance of this record is not the songs themselves (although they are the strongest since ROL), it is the way the record references memories and feelings inside that you’ve picked up from the dance floor. ABBA aside, there are no direct samples here, just hints and homage paying to artists who make up the spectrum of dance and music history. The listener takes from the record what they bring to it, if that makes sense???

When you consider the fact that it contains about 6 glaringly obvious singles, you’re looking at one of her best albums ever. If she’s made a career out of releasing the right music for the right time, she has NEVER been more bang on than she is with this record. The melodies are typical Madonna melodies, mainly written in a minor key, but not as downbeat or dare I say it dirge-y as American Life. Its not the jubilant pop she made in the 80’s, its not the experimental reflective music she made on her 90’s records, nor is it the electro-folk musings of Music & AL, its all of those things yet none of them too. I totally see why people said it is the past and the future because while I can hear so many of my favourite artists referenced in this music it also sounds fresh and exciting too – that is a testament to the brilliant production on this record ( I knew Stuart Price would pull it out of the bag).

Jump is the best song on the album for me, Sorry, Hung up & Get Together are unavoidably catchy, as catchy as anything she’s ever done, and the Future Lovers / I Love NY section that builds into walls of sound will simply drive us fans into a frenzy performed live. Regarding those much discussed I Love NY lyrics, I think they totally work as they fit the tone of the song. Its like she cant verbalise why she loves New York so she resorts to silly sentences to get the message across, and as a lover of the great city myself, I can relate to why she cant articulate this.

My one complaint of the record is that it isn’t as mixed as I was expecting. I was hoping for beat to beat mixing, whereas this is more songs segue-ing into each other with a synth section. Not a major complaint though.

I can see a major concept tour coming off this record, I hope she plays every song, and her whole back catalogue of dance classics too- no ballads – just dance.

20 years after her mid-80s heyday,Madonna is still going strong. She's got a wonderful new album,a hit single on her hands, and another world tour planned for 2006.Let's give her a round of applause, shall we?

You know what, that's one of my complaints too! When I first heard that the songs would segue into each other,I thought it would be like those late-70s disco albums where the beats actually leap over onto the next track....like much of Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' album. On 'COADF',the songs are simply connected by dramatic synthesizers, which is less exciting.Oh well...

I love it. I absolutely love it. My two favorite Madonna albums of all time are Bedtime Stories and Madonna. This one is already at number three. I like it because it combines the R&B-type pop of her first album, the fluffy lyrics of Like A Virgin, the radio-ready songs of True Blue, the personal yet danceable tunes from Like A Prayer and the electronica of Ray Of Light, Music, and American Life. I am completely smitten with “Push” and “Jump”.

Now if only I could hear “Super Pop”!

This is exactly what I was saying on another thread.COADF basically gives us everything that Madonna has done in the past, which is why this album is fast becoming a fan favorite. It's as if she went back and listened to all her old albums and decided to re-visit and celebrate her roots. She's not interested in "re-inventing" herself this time around, and that's fine. She's done enough re-inventing on the last three albums.Catchy dance/pop is her specialty and finally, she seems to be comfortable with that.

I'm still holding out until the limited edition comes out, because I want "Fighting Spirit", and the free ICON membership so I can get "Super Pop".

It is HELL waiting! I'm DYING to hear this album crystal clear in my car! The leaked copy is just gonna have to tide me over in the meantime. I friggin' love this album.

So what does everyone think should be the next singles, and in what order?

Id actually go for Jump next, I think its the catchiest song on the album and I love her “virtues of the family” type songs. After that Id release Sorry – an obvious choice (does anyone think this sounds like a much much much better Runaway Lover, both melodically and in its message???). Then I’d have it as a toss up between Push and Get Together. Push is different to most of the album, and pretty much anything she's released before, but Im not sure it would catch on the radio compared to something like Get Together.

So for me this is how im seeing the album at the moment

Singles:

Hung Up
Jump
Sorry
Push
Get Together

Very good Album Tracks:

Future Lovers
I Love NY
Let It Will Be
How High

Good Filler:

Forbidden Love
Isaac
Like It Or Not

Bad Filler

NONE

I think these should be the five singles,in this order...

"Hung Up"
"Get Together" (released in early 2006)
"Push" (released in late spring 2006)
"Sorry" (released summer 2006,just in time for the tour)
"Let It Will Be" (final single, released in late 2006)

that's five strong singles.Make some outstanding videos and she should do well throughout 2006.

Oh hell, she should just release all the songs as singles and do videos for each and every one of the songs. Then, she should release it all on a DVD!

I haven't had chance to read all the comments but - WOWEE! drool

Every so often, Madonna comes out with a song that justifies ALL the hype, all the praise and attention she gets. 'Jump' is that song. dancing jig

I love this album!

Like David says, I think Madonna's gone and done what Prince tried to do with Musicology. Whilst I really like that album, it divided the entire fan-base (there again, what wouldn't?). But she seems to have gone back to basics and given all her long-time fans exactly what they want: uptempo, dance music.

Not sure where I rank it yet but miles better than American Life.

I haven't stopped listening to this CD since I got it yesterday...I love it...I really do...my first Madonna CD that I love all the way through...

It was funny I went to the Target, here in LA, on La Brea at 8am yesterday and there were about ten guys, all armed with their copy of Confessions. By the time my turn came to pay, the cashier looked at me, and then around to the other guys and mumbled "I was wondering what was up with all the gays here this morning." I don't think she said it in a mean homophobic way, just kind of like...ahhh I get it, madonna...

Fave tracks as I type this...

sorry
